Today in the U.S. new home sales rose but this was not enough to boost stocks and indices which fell for a second consecutive day. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said that a deal for the fiscal cliff will most likely not be reached until January 1st because he claims that Republicans will not cooperate. This comment cause the anxiety of investors to increase as each day that passes means that the world’s largest economy is coming closer to higher taxes and spending cuts.

In Europe, investors are still concerned that the United States may fail to reach a deal by the end of the year but most believe that in the end an agreement will be reached even if it is after the deadline. European indices rose today but concerns over the Eurozone’s sovereign debt crisis, which led Greece to a bailout, still remain.

The DJ30 closed at 13,096.31 declining 18.28 points (-0.14%), SPX500 closed at 1,418.09 declining 1.74 points (-0.12%) and the NASDAQ100 closed at 2,632.94, declining 4.24 points (-0.16%).

The CAC40 closed at 3,674.26 gaining 21.65 points (0.59%), FTSE100 closed at 5,954.30 gaining 0.12 points (0.00%) and DAX40 closed at 7,655.88 gaining 19.65 points (0.26%)

Microsoft (MSFT)’s tablet called Surface has not seen the expected demand as a Christmas gift. Apple’s iPad dominates in first place for Christmas purchases with Amazon’s tablet, Kindle Fire, following in the second place. Even though it is still too early for conclusions, sales numbers are not promising for Microsoft.  However, expects that the popularity of its tablet will rise until in the few next days.
