U.S. stocks rose on Wednesday as markets were boosted by the declaration of a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians. On the other hand, investors remained cautious about the lack of resolution on releasing aid to Greece.  Concerns also remained about tax increases and spending cuts which should come into effect in the new year and result in the ‘fiscal cliff’. Trading volume was low ahead of Thursday’s Thanksgiving holiday.

European stocks gained for the third day in a row on Wednesday as investors became more positive about strengthening efforts by politicians to reach a deal for the next round of cash for Greece. European stocks markets were lifted mainly by the telecommunications stocks.

The DJ30 closed at 12,836.89, gaining 48.38 points (0.38%), SPX500 closed at 1,391.03 gaining 3.22 points (0.23%) and the NASDAQ100 closed at 2,600.48, gaining 5.82 points (0.22%).

The CAC40 closed at 3,477.36, gaining 15.30 points (0.44%) FTSE100 closed at 5,752.03, gaining 3.93 points (0.07%) and DAX40 closed at 7,184.71, gaining 11.72 points (0.16%).

Google Inc (GOOG) is expected to reach a new licensing deal with music producers in Europe. This deal should provide Google with access to over 5 million musicians from 35 countries, including artists like Rihanna and Lady Gaga. The new agreement is intended to help Google extend its music offerings in Europe as with its major competitors such as Apple and Amazon. According to Catherine Kerr-Vignale, a SACEM representative, Amazon and Apple’s iTunes have an international licensing agreements. Google’s deal is bigger in terms of its agreement as it is applicable to 35 countries.
